Nelle has danced professionally for TV, Opening Ceremonies, the Governor of Western Australia and corporate and community events. Nelle has choreographed for National NAIDOC Awards Ball televised on NITV Live, WA Youth Awards, Telethon, FX Burlesque, and Opening Ceremonies for Reconciliation Week for Government House WA and Perth NAIDOC Opening, Princess Margaret Hospital Megazone Performance, Indigenous Round for West Coast Eagles Football Club and The Couch on Foxtel’s Aurora Community Station. Nelle’s training began in the 80’s at the renowned Perth studio of legendary dancer and choreographer Mrs Shirley Halliday, in the genres of jazz, tap, ballet, acrobatics and modern. Her training continued and so did her love of Hip Hop. Nelle has learned from world class professionals Dave Scott (choreographer SYTYCD America, Step Up 2, Battle of The Year and Stomp the Yard), Laurie-Ann Gibson (Boomkack owner, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga Choreographer), Gil Duldulao (Janet Jackson, Madonna, Britney Spears Choreographer) and Marko Panzic (SYTYCD Australia and Creative Director The Voice Australia). Teaching dance and health for the Department of Education at Balga Senior High Schools SNSEP Program from 2010-2012 and mentoring girls for the David Wirrpanda Foundation from 2007-2010 Nelle’s wealth of knowledge and her skills with children from different backgrounds helped sew the seed to found Urban Youth Crew the first Australian Hip Hop Crew amalgamating Hip Hop Dance with Indigenous Dance, Urban Youth Effect a small business co-founded with her mother Rusty Hazel providing workshops to schools and local government agencies and now her own studio catering for children from all walks of life.

 

 

Rusty Hazel

Rusty better known to our dance and netball community as “Nanna Rusty” is the matriarch and backbone of One Mob Studios and Urban Youth Effect. Rusty’s decades of experience in teaching dance, netball and sports education not only provides a wealth of knowledge to her team of staff but to each and every student that walks through our doors. Rusty is currently a part-time teacher at Balga Senior High School teaching the Netball Specialist program to young indigenous girls. She is highly regarded in all areas of her work both paid and voluntary and is a well-respected elder in our community. Rusty danced professionally in the 1960’s with dance studio Shirley Halliday Dance Gallery for Channel 7 Kids Club and Boanes Shopping Centre. With numerous awards for the her contribution to the community for The City of Stirling, Perth Netball Association, Western Australian Netball Association and Balga Senior High School Nanna Rusty is a crucial a key figure at our studio.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jerome Garlett

 

Dance Teacher & Choreographer - Urban Youth Crew and One Mob Studios

Jerome has loved dancing since he was young and his love of performing became obvious throughout his High School experiences at Balga Senior High School performing at the Opening of NAIDOC Week for SNSEP and performing and winning YOHFEST during his Year 12 year at school. Jerome is an outstanding freestyle dancer showing a fluid way of dancing in an effortless display of showmanship and skill. He is also our leading Nyoongar Dancer performing all over WA and representing Urban Youth Crew’s culture and leading his people in a positive light. Jerome recently completed his Certificate III with Urban Youth Effect and the AFL Sportsready Program in Sport and Recreation. Jerome is not only an amazing dancer, but a singer and rapper and to top it off he is an outstanding athlete excelling at Australian Rules Football playing colts for both West Perth Football Club and Subiaco Football Club at WAFL Level and basketball comes effortlessly to him also. Jerome continues to develop his dance skills with industry professionals and his choreographic abilities and teaching methods are a credit to him. Jerome works for Urban Youth Effect teaching workshops in rural Wheatbelt towns of WA and throughout Perth.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Nadia Murray

Nadia Murray is One Mob Studios Admin and Studio Offier. A mother of two talented boys both dancers at One Mob Studios, Nadia has happily volunteered her time to assist Nelle with updates for parents, costumes, fundraising and connecting to community. Nadia not only assists with our studio but also works full time as a Clinical Nurse at Joondalup Health Campus and tries to fit her time as mother and wife inbetween volunteering for OMS. Nadia and her family have been involved in One Mob Studios and Urban Youth Crew classes for over 2 and a half years.
